11/19/98 16:56 Trace Shameus1@aol.com Hey guys; I've shared this with Ritchie and I thought I would also share this with you. If this is new or not or has been done before I'm not really sure, what hasn't been done before right..ha, ha. I stumbled onto this mod and thought I'd share it with you guys and maybe you could try it and see what you think. First here's the background; The amp is a Traynor YBA-3 Bass head. It has 4=EL34's and 3= 12AX7's. Basically, it's set up like a Marshall or older Bassman. The schematic is on this site: http://www.lynx.bc.ca/~jc/trayn.html Mod: I used a mini toggle switch (on/off)and put it in place of the low-input jack (I never use them anyway). I wired a .022 50 volt ceramic NTE cap to the switch. I grounded it to the Master Volume and attached the other end to the "IN" of the Presence knob (which is wired like a Marshall plexi is & most Marshalls) The sound: 1.) When the amp is at a low volume it gives the over all sound a slight "boost" with a bit more gain, effecting the power tubes as well. 2.) It gives the bass a "tigher" feel while also adding more sustain at a lower volume (master at "2" while using only 2=EL34's - 50 watter) 3.) It gives the highs the extra "sparkle" like when the amp is cranked plus when you turn your guitar's volume knob down it still retains the high's that usually get lost and cause the tone to become muddy. 4.) When the amp is cranked it give's the amp the "Sag" or "compressed" feel of the Vox AC30 or also the sound that EL84's give you when they are driven hard. It makes the leads sing with a wonderful sustain. Let me know what you guys think of the mod. Ritchie suggested using a trim pot to also dial in a more specific sound, which might work for you guys too. I also tried the mod on a Fender style slider switch but I like the sound of the mini toggle myself. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!!! Cheers; Trace
