It took me awhile to realize that there are some "standard" combinations that will become easy to recognize. Then you just need to remember the multiplier. 10 brown black 12 brown red 15 brown grn 22 red red 27 red violet 33 orange orange 47 yellow violet 56 green blue 68 blue grey 82 grey red I don't know why but I haven't seen any "7X" or "9X" values much. Then to remember the multipliers, I just remember the resulting power of ten I want: xx = black xx0 = brown x.x K = red xx K = orange xx0 K = yellow 1 meg = brown black green Note that most values in guitar amps that are below 1K are going to be 2 watt or greater. They'll be PS dropping resistors or cathode bias resistors.Very likely they'll be the blocky cement 5 or 10 watt power resistors and will have the value printed right on them.
