I just want to know opinions, before I acutally do this on my own Vibrochamp. 1). Tone pot removal? 2). Changing the NFB loop by bumping up the resistance on the speaker's NFB loop from 2700 ohm to 22k ohm and simply bypassing the cathode bias cap/resistor pair to get to pin #8 of the preamp tube. (The same way the tweed champ handles this particular circuit)? 3). Raising the power resistor value to drop the voltage and subsequent gain? I did the tone pots removal and the power resistor first. Made the tone a LOT fuller. Still starts distorting pretty early - at 4. Then I did the feedback resistor, value change and output move. Didn't notice too much with this one. I'm thinking that it would make a worthwhile difference if I had some clear volume (cause removing the NFB has been a BIG plus (no pun) in three other Fender amps, particularly a BF's SFSR). And I'm gonna mess with rectifier tubes to see if that can happen a little bit better. These mods take less time to do than it takes to get the thing out of the cab. And they all are just as easily reversable, but I ain't making no judgement for certain until I can turn it up more. I stuck a 10in-8ohm speaker on it and it sounded a LOT better, but still distorting. Hey, dig in Doood. You can't hurt those things. Charlie I did all the mods, including the tremolo slow down, and I REEEEEALLY like the end result. If anyone's interested, I've reposted the mods in their entirety over on http://www.the-crossroads.org in the "Amp Tech's Workbench Forum", along with my comments on each one.
