Today I tried something different, not having any spare transformers around. I put a 1 mfd 25 v cap in the bypass of the 12AX7 instead of the stock 25/25. The resistor across it had already been upped to a 2.2k from the stock 1.5k. This really brightened the amp up a LOT by removing some of the low end. I liked it, but it also gave me a rather loud hum that I hadn't anticipated so I went back to the stock config. I don't have any caps with values in between the 1 and the 25 to play with, but I wonder if there might not be a happy medium somewhere.
