Gibson uses some high-valued inductors for their varitones - 7.2 henries for the Blueshawk, 15 henries for Lucille. Does anyone know where to get small inductors in this range of values? I have the Torres kit, but I want the real deal. What I like is that the top of the thing is no cap at all and like a blow switch. cool. The inductor makes the effect much more intense. An inductor / capacitor combo has a resonant peak at a particular frequency. At that frequency, the combo either doubles the current and cancels out the voltage, or doubles the voltage and cancels out the current, depending on whether they're connected in series or in parallel. I can't remember which works which way. A well-designed varitone gives a nice range of mid-boosts and mid-scoops. I checked out a Gibson Blueshawk once. Although I didn't care for the body, I loved the electronics. It had P-90s with a hum-cancelling dummy coil and a Varitone. The Varitone dialed in a nice range of sounds from Gibson humbucker to strat single-coil to strat out-of-phase single coil.
